The Nina Bag Pattern has instructions to make a professional looking handbag with handles (with or without hardware), organizational pockets, and a zipper or magnet snap closure. Included is a large pocket with a flap that fits most e-Readers. The finished size is 12"H x 16"W x 5"D. A template is included for the curve of the bag.

Materials Needed:

  • FABRIC: Cotton quilting fabric, linens or lighter weight decor fabric 42/44" wide
  • 3/4 yard of main fabric
  • 3/4 yard of coordinating fabric (2/3 yard is needed if you sew handles out of another fabric)
  • 1/4 yard coordinating handle fabric (optional)
  • INTERFACING:
  • 2 and 1/8 yards of 20 to 22" wide medium weight woven fusible interfacing, such as Pellon SF101 for 2 yards if using purchased handles or not making handle tabs
  • 1/3 yard of 44/45" wide firm non-woven interfacing such as Pellon Decor Bond
  • 1 yard of extra firm stabilizer such as Pellon 926, Sew Lazy Stiff Stuff or ByAnnie's Soft and Stable (Peltex not recommended)
  • One 5 and 1/4" x 1 and 3/4" piece of Peltex or mat board to create a firm, flat bottom
  • OTHER SUPPLIES:
  • One 1" or 1 and 1/4" button for large pocket closure
  • One 18" (or longer) zipper or one magnetic snap closure set
  • Four rectangle rings with an interior width of 1 and 1/4" (for optional handle tabs)
  • 1 and 1/8 yards of 1/4" clothesline to give body to the handles
  • About 24" of household string
  • An embroidery needle with a wide opening and a dull point
  • Masking tape Rotary cutter, mat and ruler
  • Fabric marking pen
  • Size 14 or 16 needle
