The Knitted - Smooth and Shaggy Tote with Flap 'Bags from Rags' pattern by Madge Ziegler is made from fabric strips and is a great knitted pattern for beginners. You only need to know how to cast on, bind off and knit (garter stitch). Finished size is approximately 12 inches x 15 inches.
Materials Needed:
- FABRICS:
- SMOOTH TOTE: a total of 4 yards of fabric cut into strips (I used 2 yds each of 2 contrasting fabrics in the sample)
- SHAGGY TOTE: A total of at least 5 yards of fabric (I used 6 coordinating fabrics totaling a litte more than 5 yards in my sample)
- Lining - 1/2 yd of fabric for the lining of each bag
- Optional: 3/4 yd of lightweight interfacig
- SUPPLIES: One pair size 13 knitting needles, 14 inches long
- Yarn needle
- Rotary cutting supplies
- Hand and/or machine sewing supplies to make and insert lining
