The Soft Pockets Bag Pattern by Aunties Two has instructions for 3 different sizes with one pocket perfect for your technical gadgets (phone, e-reader, etc.) and one pocket with a zipper - great for your smaller essentials!  There are guidelines for making your bag pattern with either batting stuffed fabric, stuffed fabric strips, or felted wool.  Finished size is 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" for the small, 9 1/2" x 6" for the medium, and 13" x  9 1/2" for the large.

Materials Needed:

  • FABRIC:  Quality cotton.  Bali Pops can also be used.
  • Bag body - 2 1/2" strips cut the width of the fabric (usually 42"/44")
  • SMALL - 6 strips (1/2 yard) MEDIUM - 10 strips (3/4 yard) LARGE - 21 strips (1 1/2 yard)
  • Binding, pockets and handles - 1/2 yard
  • Batting - Medium weight batting 45" wide - 1 and 1/2 yard
  • Fusible web - 1/2 yard
  • Buttons - Six 1" buttons (or more for a layered look) - Four magnetic buttons by Bohin
  • Zipper - Medium and large only - MEDIUM - 9" zipper LARGE - 12" zipper

Felted wool also works well with this.  Use wool for the bag body strips only.  Use coordinating cotton fabric for the binding, pockets, and handle with no batting.  Felted wool pockets are slightly wider than cotton/batting pockets.  Wool strips needed: SMALL - (24) 2 1/2" x 12"; MEDIUM - (30) 2 1/2" x 15"; LARGE - (42) 2 1/2" x 22"
