The Emily Tote Bag pattern by Sue Spargo and Kerry Green is a folk art pattern made with upholstery fabric and hand dyed wool.

Materials Needed:

  • 1/2 yd 54" wide upholstery fabric for bag
  • 1/2 yd cotton lining
  • Fat 1/4 fabric for inside pocket
  • 1/2 yd of Pellon fusible fleece interfacing or thin cotton batting
  • 9" x 15 1/2" eggplant wool for applique background
  • 4" x 15 1/2" bittersweet wool for contrasting strips on the front
  • Scraps of orange, red, pink and a variety of different greens and aqua wool and silks for applique
  • Scraps of cottons for wings and  hill of applique
  • 50/50 wool thread for cotton applique
  • One set of 18" brown pre punched leather handles
  • Two magnetic closures for bag and pocket closure
  • Cebellia thread to stitch on handles
  • EMBELLISHMENTS: 2 mustard beads for bird eyes
  • 3 large red and 3 medium striped Heishi beads for flower centers
  • 9" wide red rick-rack for hill
  • 14" medium gold rick-rack for stem
  • 5" baby turquoise rick-rack for bird bellies
  • 2 yds green seagrass for veins on leaves
  • Over dyed cotton for label and 05 Black Pigma Pen for label
