Casablanca Clutch Bag Pattern *

The Casablanca Clutch Bag pattern by Charlie's Aunt is a 1950's vintage inspired clutch bag that has retro features such as an oversized shape with a pleat detail and a curved front flap.  There are 2 view available - View #1 uses 2-3 contrasting fabrics and View #2 has a plain front with a flat bow trim on the flap.  Finished size is 9" H x 16" W (23cm x 40cm).  This pattern is also available in a downloadable format at our sister site, epursepatterns.com

Materials Needed:

• VIEW #1 (Quantities are based on a bag made from 1 fabric with a contrast center front palen.  To make from more than 2 fabrics, you will need to vary the quantities below):
• 1/2 yard (50cm) of 44" (112cm) or 54" (140cm) wide main fabric
• 1/4 yard (25cm) of 44" wide or 54" wide contrast fabric for center front
• 1/2 yard of 44" wide lining fabric for bag lining and interior pocket
• 1/3 yard (30cm) of sew-in interfacing, at least 36" (92cm) wide fusible interfacing for flap
• 2 magnetic snap sets (one for each end of the flap) or use Velcro/sew-on snaps instead
• 2 large buttons approximately 1 3/4" (38mm) in diameter
• VIEW #2 (Quantities below are for a bag made in 1 fabric.  To make contrasting flap, you will need 1/4 yard of 44" wide contrast fabric):
• 3/4 yard (50cm) of 44" wide or 54" wide main fabric
• 1/2 yard of 44" wide lining fabric for bag lining and interior pocket
• 1/3 yard of sew-in interfacing at least 36" (92cm) wide for bag body (plus optional the same amount of batting)
• 1/4 yard of 36" wide fusible interfacing for the flap
• 2 magnetic snap sets (1 for each end of the flap) or use Belcro/sew-on snaps instead
• 1 button approximately 1" (25mm) diameter to trim flap bow tab
• If attaching a handle, you will also need:
• One purchased handle (approximately 15" (38cm) long)
• Small square of fusible web (6" x 6"/15cm x 15cm) for handle tabs
