The Chelsea Bags pattern by Amy Butler includes instructions, pattern pieces, and measurements to create your own REVERSIBLE LARGE TOTE AND HANDBAG.  This modern, boxy tote and handbag is reversible for your many moods. Clean lines and cool shapes make for an easy access bag with contemporary urban flair!

Materials Needed:


FOR THE TOTE   (Finished size is 12 1/2"W across the bag top and 9 1/2" W across the bag bottom x 14 3/4" H x 3" D)
  • 5/8 yard of light to mid weight cotton for the exterior
    (Allow extra for matching up a pattern on your fabric)
  • 5/8 yard of light to mid weight cotton for the reversible side
  • 1 yard heavyweight fusible interfacing or Pellon's Craft Fuse
    NOTE: If you use heavyweight cotton you may choose to use a light or featherweight interfacing to give your bag firmness and to reinforce the Handle openings.
  • (1) - 2 3/4" x 9 1/4" heavy pressed cardboard about 1/8" thick for the false bottom
    NOTE: The cardboard from the back of writing pads works great, or you can purchase 'chip board' from an art supply store.
  • 1 spool of coordinating thread - ­ I recommend cotton covered polyester thread.

FOR THE HANDBAG  (Finished size is 15"W across the bag top and 12"W across the bag bottom x 8"H x 3"D)

  • 1/2 yard of light to mid weight cotton for the exterior
    (Allow extra for matching up a pattern on your fabric)
  • 1/2 yard of light to mid weight cotton for the reversible side of the Handbag
  • 1 yard heavyweight fusible interfacing or Pellon's Craft Fuse
    NOTE: If you use heavyweight cotton you may choose to use a light or featherweight inter facing to give your bag firmness and to reinforce the Handle openings.
  • (1)  2 3/4" x 11 1/4" heavy pressed cardboard about 1/8" thick for the false bottom
