The Trapezoid Tote Pattern was designed by Amy Barickman for Indygo Junction and uses piecing and quilting techniques to make a unique tote bag!  Instructions are given to use coordinating strips such as Bali Pops or Jelly Rolls for the front and back of this tote or you can make it from one fabric that is not pieced!  Finished size is 7"D x 15"W (Bottom edge)7"W (top edge) x 17"H excluding handles.  The top gusset is 19" wide when opened.

Materials Needed:

  • PIECED VERSION:  Fourteen 2 1/2" x 44" fabric strips such as Jelly Rolls or Bali Pops in assorted colors for tote center front and back
  • 1 and 1/8 yards of  coordinating 45" wide fabric for gusset side and outer tote bottom
  • 1/4 yard of second coordinating 45" wide fabric for tote handles
  • 1 yard of 45" wide fabric for center lining, inside pockets and tote  bottom lining
  • SOLID FABRIC VERSION:  5/8 yard of 45" wide fabric for tote front and back
  • 1 and 3/8 yards of coordinating 45" wide fabric for gusset side, tote bottom and handles
  • 1 yard for center lining, inside pockets and tote  bottom lining
  • NEEDED FOR BOTH VERSIONS:  1 and 3/8 yards of 45" wide thin lightweight fleece batting such as Bosal sew-in batting fleece
  • 1 yard of midweight interfacing for side gussets
  • 1/4 yard of heavy stiffener such as Peltex for purse  bottom
  • 4" of 3/8" wide  elastic for pocket
  • 1" sew-in magnetic closure
  • 2" of hook and loop tape
