The Irene Crossbody Bag Pattern by Cristy Stuhldreher of Love You Sew includes sewing instructions and pattern templates for creating a compact crossbody bag that is perfect for everyday use & makes a fantastic travel companion. You will be able to keep all of your essentials easily accessible with the extra-long zipper and wide-open view of the interior. The Irene comes with multiple options for the front & back pockets, as well as options for the strap and interior storage. Snap and zip closures on all exterior pockets keep your items safe while still quick to find. Mix and match to get exactly what you need! ¿¿In this pattern, you will learn how to create accordion gussets, make a card slot lining, create five different pocket views, and use varying hardware for different looks. The interior has both a clean finish for the front opening and also utilizes minimal bias tape for structure on the back of the bag. This is a great pattern to use up fabric scraps with its modest footprint. You can also play around with fabric placement for a look that is all your own. View A has a front pocket with flap, uses a magnetic snap, and has a removable 1-1/2” adjustable strap. View B has a front slip pocket with a snap, mesh interior pocket, back zipper placket and a sew-in 1” buckle strap. Both views have card slot linings, back zipper pockets, & accordion gussets with an extended 2-way main zipper compartment. The Irene was written for home decor and/or bottom-weight fabrics such as cotton canvas, duck cloth, and denim with weights of ~ 6-8 oz/sq yard. The Lining is based on quilt cotton and woven fabric with similar weights of ~4 oz/sq yard, such as linen or chambray. With the clean finish on the front panel, structured fabrics that are thick or stiff (like cork and many vinyls) should be avoided. Those fabrics would lead to difficulty turning the bag and sewing smooth corners with this sizing. However, there are plenty of other substrates to help reduce bulk. View B in the instructions uses a water resistant canvas with a weight of 140 gsm. This main fabric was used without interfacing since the polyurethane coating provided great lightweight structure. The card slots can also get bulky, so a crisp ripstop or lightweight waterproof canvas (WPC) can also be used. Finished sizes: 5” W x 8” H x 2” D; expanded: 5” W x 8” H x 6” D.
Adjustable Strap Drop: ~13-27”.
